Biochemistry Overview

Turn Around Time

The target time between arrival of a specimen in the laboratory and reporting results for urgent tests is 1 hour. Unexpected and grossly abnormal results will be phoned as they become available.

Specimen containers

Sample requirements can be found in the Test Directory. If you are already subscribed to the Pathology service you can order your specimen containers from the Core Services Consumables Store.

Must be discussed with the Duty Consultant prior to request. If you are already subscribed to the Pathology service to speak with the Biochemistry Duty Consultant call 01276 604998.

Trace Element Centre

The Trace Element centre determines a wide range of elements in biological specimens. Many are shown in the Test Directory but if there is a special request, or a requirement for a trace element screen, please contact the Centre on 01483 689978. Please note that special trace element blood collection tubes, with a dark blue cap, are available from most suppliers. These are the preferred collection tubes but if not available the tubes shown in the directory may be used .
