Description:

Reticulocytes are juvenile Red Blood Cells. They contain ribosomal RNA in large amounts in cytoplasm. The number of reticulocytes in the peripheral blood is a fairly accurate reflection of erythropoietic activity - especially in sever anaemic conditions such as sickle cell crisis.

Preparation:

Following venepuncture, mix the sample well to prevent clot formation within . Clotted EDTA samples will not be processed.

4.5ml EDTA

Sample Requirements:

The time limit for reticulocyte testing should be within 24 hrs
